Espoir. In cycling circles it means youth, future, hope, and change. The Mavic Avenge Shoes embody all of these traits and more. Their good looks, strength, durability, fit, and economy make them great first shoes, or a great bargain on a second pair of shoes. Maybe we won't see them ridden at Le Tour de l'Avenir, but you can be sure they'll be ridden on the Sunday group ride, the Wednesday night hammerfest, and on race day. Every so often, we take a step back and marvel at gear labeled AAAentry levelAAA today. Quite often these bits would have qualified as top of the line not too long ago. So it is with the Avenge Shoes. Just look at their dual-density sole, the Energy Carbon Comp outsole, that's similar to the design Sidi debuted several years ago on their high-end shoes. The Carbon Comp is constructed from carbon, glass-fiber, and nylon, and is 5.5mm thick over the cleat area. The cleat nuts themselves have 5mm fore-aft adjustability to increase the range of adjustment with your cleats. The Ergo Lite ratchet, based on another Sidi innovation, was once only provided for top-level footwear. Here, it has been improved with a larger lever to grasp, for easier on-bike manipulation and deeper valleys between the teeth, for better, more confident anchoring of your foot. As one moves down MavicAAAs shoe line, the footwear gets more conventional. While the changes result in significant cost-savings for the customer, much of the shoesAAA performance remains largely the same. Nice sole, a buckle, two Velcro straps, a synthetic leather, and a mesh upper. The shoe's interior is highlighted by the Ergo Fit 2D insole, which is also in the Mavic Galibier shoe. It's a two-density composite that has a high-density cradle for the heel and is covered with an anti-bacterial treatment. The Avenge has an Ergo 3D EVA tongue, which is comprised of a perforated pad for venting. The Mavic Avenge Shoes come in White with Black. The size run is from 5.5-13 in whole and half sizes.
